Approximate previews for planning. Each platform crops images and shortens text a little differently, and layouts change over time — use each platform's own debugging tool to check a live page and refresh its cached preview.

Check your link preview before you share

When you paste a link into Facebook, LinkedIn or X, the platform builds a preview card from the page’s Open Graph tags: an image, a title, sometimes a description and the domain. That card is often the only thing people see before deciding whether to click. A cropped logo, a title cut off mid-word or a missing image can quietly cost you traffic. This tool shows side-by-side mock-ups for all three platforms so you can get it right the first time.

How to use the social share preview

  1. Enter the title and description you’ll use in your og:title and og:description tags.
  2. Add the page URL — the domain appears on the cards.
  3. Paste the URL of your share image, or preview a local image file before you upload it.
  4. Check the image size note: it tells you if the image is too small or the wrong shape.
  5. Adjust the text and image until all three previews look good, then generate the tags.

Details you enter here are shared with the Meta Tags Generator and SERP Preview on this device, so you only type them once.

Why enter details manually?

Browsers don’t allow one website to read another website’s pages directly — a security rule known as CORS. Because this tool runs entirely in your browser with no server in between, it can’t fetch your page. Entering the details yourself has a bonus: you can preview pages that aren’t published yet, and try different headlines and images before committing to them.

How each platform shows links

  • Facebook shows a large 1.91:1 image with the domain, a bold title (up to about two lines) and a short description.
  • LinkedIn shows the image with the title and domain underneath; descriptions usually aren’t displayed.
  • X with a large image card shows the picture with the title over it and “From domain” below.

Layouts vary between the apps, the web and different screen sizes, and platforms tweak them often, so these previews are close approximations rather than pixel-perfect copies.

Best practices for share images

  • Use at least 1200 × 630 pixels — Facebook’s recommendation — for sharp previews on high-resolution screens.
  • Keep the 1.91:1 shape so nothing important is cropped.
  • Center key text and logos, leaving margin at the edges.
  • Make text large enough to read on a phone, and don’t repeat the title word for word.
  • After changing tags on a live page, use Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector to refresh cached previews.

Create the finished tags with the Meta Tags & Open Graph Generator, make correctly sized images with the Social Media Image Resizer, and check your Google result with the SERP Snippet Preview.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't this tool fetch my page automatically?

Browsers block websites from reading other websites directly (a security rule called CORS), and this tool runs entirely in your browser. So you enter the title, description and image yourself — which also lets you preview pages that aren't live yet.

Why is my old image still showing on Facebook?

Platforms cache link previews. After updating your og: tags, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector to fetch the page again and refresh the preview.

What image size works on all three platforms?

An image of at least 1200 × 630 pixels (1.91:1) works well for Facebook, LinkedIn and X's large card. Keep important text and logos away from the edges, as each platform crops slightly differently.

Does the preview use my uploaded image anywhere?

No. A local image is only shown in your browser for the preview. To use it in real shares, upload it to your website and reference its URL in the og:image tag.

Why does LinkedIn not show my description?

LinkedIn's link cards usually show only the title and domain, not the description. Put the key message in the title and image.
